 Location: Aylesbury | Hello everybody
Can anybody advise or recommend a provider for cheap international phone calls to Russia. There seems to be a multitude of choice but it would be great to get your advice on the best and maybe even those to avoid.
Thanks in anticipation. |

| Nice thread, our Broadband contract with Orange is finishing on the 27 March. We had a second line connected to the Orange livebox Broadband with inclusive calls to Russia £5.11 .Oh well all good things come to an end.
I spoke to an Orange advisor and Russia is no longer included in their package and he recommended a Tesco International calling card Russia is 1p/min to landline and 6p/min to a mobile, i will do a little more research before renewing my broadband contract. |

| Depending on who it is we're trying to call we use either Skype or Auracall (buy credit, dial a UK 03 number and get connected that way. With us, calling the 03 number is included as "free" as part of our mobile contracts).
(edit: Auracall used to be cheaper than most other similar types of provider - even cheaper than Skype. I'll admit that I haven't checked their prices recently but usually been competitive when I have checked)

I checked the current Auracall rates (buy credits online)
From mobile to:
to landline 3.65p/min
to mobile 6.10p/min
From landline to:
to landline 5p/min
to mobile 4p/min
this for their T-Talk service.

Location: Aylesbury | Thanks everybody, I thought it waqs going to be quite simple and with one or two stand out options but it seems that not the case. I agree skype is the first best option but sometimes you need to call Russia for other reasons than just friends and family which was really the purpose of my question. The best I have found for land line numbers is planet at what appears to be 1p per minute although we havent used it yet. Please see the link if you are interested.

| I explored this issue recently and realised that it's important to read the small print. A lot of the companies offering cheap international calls rely on '08.....' numbers. Some of these numbers cost a lot to call - depending on who you get your landline through. With my landline supplier they were expensive.
My conclusion was to go for the Tesco International Calling Card for calling Russia from the UK and I find it very good. They have a free Android App which I use and also they were offering a free £1 top up to try the service (this may still be operational? and not sure about conditions/who gets free top up):
http://phone-shop.tesco.com/broadband-and-home-phone/international-...
also see:
http://phone-shop.tesco.com/broadband-and-home-phone/international-...
They also have an iphone app.
I think it's possible to also use the card number and pin on other phones once you have credit (you have to request the pin from the Android App or I think you can do it online). There is something about ' No connection fee* (calls made via App only)'. I have no idea what this means
Must say I am impressed with them and the line quality is good. Calls to a Moscow landline are currently 1p a minute:
http://phone-shop.tesco.com/broadband-and-home-phone/international-...
But note that on top of these charges you call an 020 number (I think). So this comes out of any 'free allowance' you may have with your mobile company.
Finally, I cannot remember if there is a time limit to use credit on the Tesco card. Worth checking.
Totally separate issue but I am on Ovivo mobile (Vodafone network) and I use their free package:
http://ovivomobile.com/ (150mins, 150 text and 400mb all free). You can buy additional packs if you want them. Just thought I would mention it. Also worth noting is that their customer service is good - they respond quickly to emails in my experience.
All the best
Peter

Location: Hertfordshire | Elena has got an International Bolt On from O2 which I believe gives her 3000 minutes per month for three landline numbers. We also have a Talkmobile SIM card via Carphone Warehouse - http://www.talkmobile.co.uk/roaming.html

Location: South Yorkshire | Have been using VOIP for years, only 2ppm (+5p connection charge). MIL has recently gone out and bought a laptop so now it's skype for free, saving the VOIP for when she can't turn on the skype (first time computer user). |
