| Hi
I wondered if anyone has had experience with shippng personal property, including something as large as a motorcycle, to Russia from the UK. I'm going to be here (Yaroslavl) for the forseeable, and I'd love go get my bike over here.
Any advice would be welcome.
Thanks

| I'm currently on the second year of a student visa(Russian language) . This is due for renewal in September and can be renewed for a further year, suprisingly I've been told I can opt for a three year temporary residence if I wish to stay.
The immigration office said "students and pensioners are the easiest of applications" I'm both so we'll wait and see.
So far it's been very straightforward, but who knows

Location: Volgograd & Moscow | Be careful, new custom rules came into force this year that appear to mean the placing of large bonds when temporaraly importing certain vehicles into Russia, of course someone may answer here, but best ask a customs agent (if you can find one).
What sort of bike is it?
Good luck. | |

| Thanks for the advice Cris.
I've got a Fireblade and a little Honda CG125 (which I love) The 125 would be the most practical machine here.
It's just a thought, they're in the UK, doing nothing

Location: Volgograd & Moscow | Fireblade in Russia, on those roads?? - holy moly - yes I think the good old CG125 is your better bet - ignore what I said about the custom rules changes, it was a report of a local customs post miss-applying the exisiting rules (supprise).
I would have a word with a customs agent in Moscow, or check out the Federal Customs Agency website: http://www.russian-customs.org

So far it's been very straightforward, but who knows I replied a couple of days ago, but it seems to have got lost, well, again... You can import your bike free of charge (Provided you do the correct paperwork at the russian border) on any visa below a PRV, for up to 1 year, thereafter you must take it out of the country, and re-import it again if you wish.... You must carry Russian Insurance (Obtainable at the border), UK green card is invalid for long periods...(My jeep was about 3,500 roubles for the year).. If you go for a PRV eventually, you will have to either remove the bike from the country (As I did with my jeep), or pay whopping import duty.... I suggest the easiest way, is to ship the bike to Latvia by some reasonable priced company, then ride it into Russia, doing the initial paperwork at the customs at the border, which will take about 2 hours (Depending on the time of day), then continue to your destination where you must go to the local custons and complete the full declaration docs, (Takes about 1/2 a day (Again depends how busy or lazy they are being)... HTH..

| Thnk you Mel for your informative reply.
Your Baltic route seems the best solution, unless I listen to Stan and buy a Ural :-)
Actually they seem quite rare, it's mostly Chinese scooters and mopeds with some old Russian two strokes thrown in.
Although thinking about it, I have seen a few Gold Wings loaded with extra lights and chrome, very Russian
