 Location: Stoke-on-Trent | Hello,
Just over 3 months ago my Russian wife gave birth to our first child in the UK, we want him to have dual citizenship. How do we go about claiming Russian Citizenship? Also I have a question on whether he will required to do military service in Russia if he becomes a dual national British/Russian?
Plus is anyone aware of any Russian benefits that my wife can claim in Russia?
Many thanks for any help you can provide on this topic.
Regards
Paul, Julia and Baby Alexander

Location: South Leicestershire | Military service is now a minor concern at the back of my mind. It would remain so unless my son was resident in Russia and not the uk for some unforseen reason. Even so he will possibly be left to decide when he is much much older if he really wants to be a dual citizen...
That said there are a few threads on the subject already if you a search. All the information you need for claiming citizenship is on the consulate site in Russian. |

| I know this is quite an old post but if you still need any advice then let me know. Our daughter has dual citizenship and we were claiming some benefits for her initially. To be honest it's not really worth the hassle as there is a huge amount of paperwork to complete for as little as £5/10 a month! |

We have just been through this whole process (now finally completed) to get our daughter Russian Citizenship. Details including how to apply, what documents are needed and timescales involved etc. can all be found in the following thread...

Mel - maybe u'll get these free milk, cheese and yogurt if u r a single mother, but i doubt it. My friend in russia is single mum, she gets 2000r per month for her son, another friend - she's married and has twins, she gets 50r for each baby per month. As for those 250,000 rubles u mentioned (now its higher i think) u can get them only when 2nd child is 3 yo, and u can spend them either for their future education or improvment of ur living situation (as a part when buying a flat) So enjoy ur motherhood in russia :P |

Also correct about the 250,000 rubies for the second child, and it still is that much here, it is soley for the use of the baby, and can be used for paying some debt/mortgage for the appartment (the babys name therby becoming a legal owner of a part of the property, or it can be saved and used to pay for Further university education for the child.......you do not get cash........ All Russian children, no matter where they are born are entitled to receive these allowances, just how one would go about getting them, well, thats a different matter......... |
